A kilo of vegetables, an onion, a liter of broth, and the rest is deciding how creamy and how spiced you want it. Almost any vegetable makes a good creamy soup if you apply the same method: sweat, cook, purée, finish. Pick the vegetables that need to go, and the soup builds itself from there.
Why this works
A cream soup doesn't get creamy from cream, but from puréed starch and plant fibers. The cream just rounds it out. That's why every variation has something starchy: a potato, a handful of lentils, or the vegetable itself. The second lever is sweating. Onion and vegetables go into fat for five minutes first, and two things happen at once: cell walls break down so it purées better later, and sugar caramelizes slightly, bringing depth that no seasoning can replace. And the amount of liquid is deliberately tight. You can thin a soup that's too thick in five seconds, but you have to reduce a soup that's too thin, losing flavor in the process.
